The great Magellanic Cloud is an irregular satellite galaxy to our own. It is not visible from mid-northern latitudes, being very close to the southern celestial pole.

Imaged with a Hutech-modified Canon 300D (Digital Rebel). Exposure time was approximately 10x1 minutes, individual frames stacked using Photoshop. The photo was made near Teresopolis, Brazil in January 2005.
